Dealing with cravings

My two favourite and most effective tips for dealing with craving. Do these things before you try anything else!

I can't tell you how many times I have NOT given in to eating CRAP because I used the "First Eat Potatoes" rule!! And, when I'm NOT craving CRAP, I sit and think about that long, dark. depressing road that was my life before The Challenge. But, my story is about getting clean and sober from drugs and alcohol. Any time I found myself wanting to just throw in the towel and go back into the life I knew and was "comfortable" with - the life of doing drugs and drinking until I passed out - I'd think about how UN-comfortable that life REALLY was. I'd think about the number of times I'd called a friend and say, "I want to stop but I just can't." Those sobering thoughts and memories always prevented me from heading back into the life of drugs and alcohol. And so, in those moments when I'm NOT craving junk food, I sit and think about how sick and UN-comfortable and depressed and hopeless I was BEFORE. Before I stopped lying to myself about how fat I was; BEFORE I could look in the mirror and LOVE myself; BEFORE I let go of my fear of being the person I wanted to be. I have a fear today of going backwards instead of forwards. But, that fear is a healthy fear. It's the fear that tells me I KNOW who I am and where I have gotten to . . . with hard work, discipline and HONESTY! Nope, I'm not going back.

Thank you - it makes so much sense - sometimes things just need to be simplified. I'm going to cook some potatoes right now!!

That first video was exactly what I needed to hear.  Despite having been a devout McDougaller in the past, having 3 toddlers with a lot of medical appointments, meaning a lot of cartrips w drive thrus as my "only option" changed that. Chips, chips, chips washed down with a coke. Packing a plant based fat free potato salad and some green tea right now.  I am guessing the same principle would work with my cola addiction too, drink water or herbal tea first . . .

Thank you so much for this opportunity to learn from you.

Great video -- When you say, always have food available like a "box of potatoes" ready to eat, how are they prepared (to take with you in the car)? How do I stay prepared without them needing refrigeration?

Also, I like salt -- do you have a healthy alternative you use? Or, so I just need to abstain from salt also.?

Potatoes will last all day in a box without refrigeration. Salt is ok, just sprinkle on top when food is served, rather than adding it during cooking.
